CAPITAL PUNISHMENT
Sir, —With reference to you r leader of October 17 "Crime and Punishment, j wonder whether you would call me a bold man for not believing in the death sentence as a deterrent against capital crime, in view of the following (acts: Holland has less capital crimes (petcapita) than any other country, yet the highest punishment is only 20 years' liard labour, whereas Belgium, whose people are very closely related to the Dutch, has the'most severe capital punishment, and about the highest percentage of capital crimes in Europe, if not in the world. Dutchman.
