ROAD CYCLING RACES

Unpaced Event,—The Auckland amateur unpaced race from Point Chevalier to Kumeu and back, a distance of 35 miles, was held on Saturday afternoon, a stronj head wind hampering the 28 starters. M. C. Johnson (Manukati) won in 97m 255, to retain the title he won last year. C. W. Shilton (Manukau) was second fastest in 97m 335, but was disqualified for not wearing his registered number. W. F. -Ferguson (Papatoetoe), 99m 20s, was second, and G- R. Purdom (Manukau), 99m 375, was third. Purdom (6m 455) won the handicap. A junior race of 22 miles resulted:—M. keegan (Northern), 6m 30s, 3; W. ,T. Dagg (Northern), 7m. 2; J. Kinchant (Lynndale), fim 30s. 3. Fastest time: v. A. Hills (Manukau), scr, 63m Is, Auckland Club.—The club conducted the TOO kilometre New Zealand championship on Saturday _ afternoon, with the following result:—K. Edkins (Auckland Club), 22m. 1; 6. TTayes (Metropolitan), 22m. 2; K Watson (Auckland), 10m, 3; J. W. Pratney (Auckland) 3m 30s, 4; K. Knight (Auckland), 3m 30s, 5. fastest time and championship: K. tish (Auckland), scr, 3h 3m 18s. A Press Association message from Christchurch states that the annual cycle race from waimate to Christchurch on Saturday was won by C Skiffington, off the 45-minute~mark. Fastest time went to the 19-year-old Christchurch rider C. B. Evans, who sprinted pluckily over the last quarter-mile of the 135tniles journey. Evans' time was second for the shortened course, which now runs through the Kangitata diversion, cutting off 10 miles. SkilTington an Aucklander, who has been in Christchurch only a few months, had not started in the race before. Evans, who will bo 20 this week, had not previously started in a race of over 50 miles.
