Evergreen Shrubs

Evergreen shrubs are usually more difficult to transplant successfully in winter than the deciduous or leaf losing ones. For that reason the work is usually done in autumn or spring. Soon the ground will be getting warm again and newly-planted evergreens will begin to make fresh roots and so make good the moisture lost by transpiration through the leaves. It is most important not to let the roots become dry; if this happens the chances of success are diminished. Better than frequent waterings at the root, is to spray over with clear water after hot days.
