Grow Chives

Chives will he found particularly useful for flavouring in the place of onions. Apart from any scarcity of onions, many people appreciate the mild flavour of chives. Their culture is simplicity itself. The bulbs are about the size of a hazel nut but from them grow close tufts of green leaves which should be cut regularly in order that the produce may be fresh and succulent. Chives are increased by division of the clumps and spring is the best time to establish a bed. Every third or fourth year the clumps should be divided again. They are not fastidious as any good garden soil will suit them.
