VARIETY OF SUBJECTS TRANSPORT APPEAL AUTHORITY (S.R.) WELLINGTON. Tuesday A wide variety of subjects is covered by the Statutes Amendment Dill introduced in the Mouse of Representatives late to-night. Three boards, the Dominion Land Purchase Hoard, the Lands Development Hoard and the Small Farms Hoard, are all abolished. In their place is established the Land Settlements Board to exercise the functions of the boards abolished. There is power in one clause for the council of the Auckland University College to increase the number of lecturers on the Professorial Hoard above the present number of two. Authority to regulate the employment of children is extended. A clause gives the Governor-General power to make regulations governing the employment of children, their attendance at places of public entertainment, and assoeiated sub j ects. Wider authority for forest officers to requisition aid for extinguishing fires is provided. It is made an offence not to comply with the requirements set out. There is also more power to make regulations controlling traffic through State forests. The appointment of a transport appeal authority for the purpose of the Transport Licensing Act. 1931, is pro vided for. People financially interested in the industry or employed in it are not to be appointed. The authority is given the powers of a commission of inquiry. The final clause transfers to the authority the functions of the Minister of Transport in relation t.o appeals under the amendment Act of 1936.
