FIGHT WITH INTRUDER
SHOPKEEPER IN HOSPITAL SECOND CHRfSTCHURCH CASE [by telegraph—PßESS association] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday The second man in a few days to be injured in the protection of his property against robbery was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital at 8.30 last evening. The victim is Mr. H. X. Vin cent, who has a large leather goods shop at 62 Manchester Street. Living alone in rooms above the shop, Mr. Vincent last evening heard the footsteps of a prowler at the back of his premises, and. although he is 66 years of age, he went down singlehanded to investigate. Now lying in hospital suffering from head injuries, Mr. Vincent was unable to-day to give a clear account of what happened last evening, but it appears he heard someone trying to force an entry at the back of his shop, where a similar attempt was made some time ago. Going down from his rooms, he accosted a stranger in an adjoining vacant section, where they came to grips, trampled grass showing where they struggled until Mr. Vincent was either felled by a blow on the head or thrown down and struck his head on one of the broken bricks or fragments of broken concrete that lie about in the grass.
