APPRENTICES TO fore WINS IN JUMPING EVENTS double for conflagration The success of the apprentice riders J. Williamson and E. V. Dye in the jumping events was a feature of the Thames Jockey Club's Winter Meeting at Parawai on Saturday. Williamson won twice on Conflagration, who accomplished the unusual feat of winning two steeplechases in the one day, and D}fe won the Hikntaia Hurdles on Kena. In addition Williamson also won on Expellant. The day was pleasantly fine, the sun breaking through after fog in the morning, and there was a large attendance. The totnlisator handled £2l 10s. Xo comparison available but the turnover was greater than on the second day of the summer meeting in January, when the total was £16,109. The turnover on the first day of the summer meeting was £"JI,I2S. The chief flat event, the President's Handicap was won by the fourth and r.xth fancy Radiant Vaals and the open sprint, the Parawai Handicap, was taken by the second favourite Expellant, who had earlier finished fourth in the Stewards' Hack Handicap.
