HEALTH AND BEAUTY
TOWN HALL DISPLAY The Health and Beauty Movementwell justified its name in a mass demonstration in the Town Hall last night in aid of the Fighting Forces Fund. Each of the 150 performers''exhibited grace and fitness of a high order in routine exercises. Creek dancing and novelty items, and the numbers drew unstinted applause front an audience which practically tilled the hall. A tribute to the work the movement was doing in improving national fitness was paid by the .Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, at the beginning of the demonstration. Trophies were presented by Mrs. Allum. The ideals of the movement were explained during the evening by the founder and director in New Zealand. Millicent Ward, and the assistant-director, Caroline Ward. Clad in the familiar Health and Beauty uniform, the performers, who included representatives front Whangarei. Hamilton. Wanganui and Christchurch, were seen in a wide variety of Bagot Stack exercises, the massed effect on an extended stage being attractive and impressive. Tito exercises demonstrated by children and the more intricate movements of the advanced classes were carried out with equal efficiency, youthful vigour and rhythm being well blended. Dances based on the Greek model earned especial applause, as did the admirable poise with which a demonstration of bowl balancing was presented. The V symbol was effectively introduced into the finale, outlined in twinkling lights on a darkened stage.
