K. Lyon, wife of Captain Lvon, has been freely mentioned as likely to receive nomination, h„t it was stated at last night's meetin" that, anting on medical advice, she bad been unable to consent to a request which had been unanimously n„de bv Labour Party members throughout the electorate and in many other parts of Xew Zealand. Mr M. Moohan, national secretary of the New Zealand Labour Party, presided at last night's meeting, which was held in the Glenfield Hall and was lars/elv attended by party members representing all areas of the electorate. The meeting stood in respect to the memorv of Captain Lyon and a motion of sympathy with Mrs. Lyon and her two daughters was sent to her from the meeting. Nine names, were submitted for consideration as the party's candidate and it is expected that the choice will be announced at a meeting to be held in the Glenfield Hall next week. The meeting carried a resolution expressing undivided loyalty to the candidate who is chosen. Mr. A. G. Osborne, M.P. for Onehunga, was elected organiser for the party's campaign in the by-election. The names of the nine nominees were not disclosed. However, contrary to a report. Major W. X. Pharazyn, of Wellington, secretary of tlie Wclling*ton Clerical Workers' Union, was not among those considered and his name was not mentioned at the meeting.
