ENEMY ALIENS
Sir.- I believe that ''Pro Patria is a genuine lover ot this country and that lie is sincere in hi* advocacy ot a wholesale internment o! refugees m order to minimise sinv danger in tins Dominion. But lias he realised tlint, ij we are to take the already invaded countries :>s object lessons, it _ seems that the refugees provide an inlinitesiinaliy small source of potential danger as compared with that, oliered by a certain (lass of our own people who are enjoying unrestricted liberty. In the invaded countries the overwhelming majority ol the filth columnists were to lie found among those individuals. usually of property and good standing in the community, who bad perhaps" paid the Communistic element the compliment ot raising them to a fa We importance and thus bad an exaggerated (ear of them. ' ft was this fear, certainly, that enabled Hitler to ri-e to his .1939 power without having fought a battle. People, witli this fear in its exaggerated state, seem blinded by it and turn to Hitlerisir, as a bulwark against the "Bolshies and it is these people that surely must be the greatest potential weakness in our Dominion, too. Franco was betrayed by them. Great Britain has seen the danger in time, we hope, and has been busy finding out and locking up these real fifth columnists, men, unfortunately, olten of the highest rank and station. Then, in the treatment of the refugees can we not safely follow the lead of .Mr. Churchill's Government, who. rather than follow panic tactics, accept tin- help of thousands of them in war work, helping to light their battle and our battle against Hitlerism. As "Pro P.itria" said, we are fighting for Christianity, for humanity. Surely, then, we may leave alone these harried refugees and justify their confidence in our British spirit of fair play and justice. Ai.so Pito Patjua.
