PATRIOTIC APPEAL
FIGHTERS' MOTHER FUND
BRIDGE PARTY AND CONCERT In aid of Groups 2 and 6 of the Fighters' Mother appeal, a bridge and mail jongg party, attended by over 800 players, and a concert, were held in the Town Hall and concert chamber yesterday afternoon. The function was organised by Auckland women's clubs and patriotic societies under the auspices of tho Auckland Lyceum Club, with Mrs. J. W. Nutter as convener, Mrs. Stanley Chambers as financial secretary, and a committee comprising representatives from the various organisations assisting.
In declaring the function open the Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allttm, who was introduced by Mrs. W. H. Parkes, president of the Lyceum Club, spoke of the necessity for raising funds and thanked all present for their generous support.
Arranged by Mr. L. A. Quinn and stage-managed by Mrs. Wynne Jones, the concert held in the concert chamber also attracted a. large attendance. The programme included pianoforte solos, songs, dances and recitations. Sweets were sold by members of the Woodford House Old Girls' Association, with the president, Mrs. Ronald Horton, in charge. Members of the Women's National Service Corps assisted and were also responsible for the delivery of the bridge tables and chairs.
Tho following oru.'inisnt ions helped with Hio arrangement of the combined functions:— Auckland Lyceum Club, Navy League, Victoria League, Royal Knipire Society, Penwomen's Chili, Overseas League, Society for the Protection of Women and Children, Catholic Women's League, Ex-Sorvico Women's Association, Grammar. Cleveland House, Woodford House, and Diocesan Old Girls' Associations
