NATIONAL PARTY
THE OTAHUHU SEAT SELECTION OF CANDIDATE A ballot for the selection of a candidate to contest the seat at the coming general election was taken at a meeting of nearly 80 delegates from local committees of the National Party in the Otahuhu electorate, hold at Papatoetoe night. The ballot, which was conducted by officials oi the Auckland division of the party, resulted in the choice of Mr, H. P. Congdon, of A uekland. Mr. Congdon stood for the Auckland Central seat in H):}1 on behaif of the Coalition Party against the sitting Labour member, Mr. W. E. Parry, and was unsuccessful. An Australian by birth, he served through the last war with the Australian Imperial Force, reaching tho rank of captain. He was a prominent' runner and swimmer in Sydney, arid took part in the Army and Navy championships at Stamford Bridge in 1918. Coming to Auckland in 1923, he has since been representative of a group of English textile manufacturers. Mr. Congdon is well known in athletic circles and is adjutant of the Ist Auckland Battalion of the Home Guard.
