SALES TAX REVENUE
HIGH LEVEL MAINTAINED YEAR'S RECEIPTS £3,515,617 Sales tax collected during the financial year ended March 31 for ordinary revenue purposes totalled £3.515,617, compared with £3,520.703 in 1939-40, and £3.572,110 in 1938-39. The. estimated revenue for the year was £3,000,000. Tax receipts for March were £583,086 (ordinary revenue purposes £291,443; war purposes £291,643)', as compared with £415,574 (ordinary revenue purposes, £207.889; 'war purposes, £207.685) in February. The £291,443 collected in March for ordinary revenue purposes compares with a yield of £259,246 in the corresponding month of 19-10, as the war expenses portion of this tax did not operate until June 28, 1940.
