j Sir,- Granted that the system of promotion to commissioned rank is better than during the last war, the injustice is being perpetrated upon the volunteer soldiers of our Expeditionary Force that men who have been called in the ballot can be selected to go overseas with commissioned rank. This is not only an injustice to our volunteers, but a definite danger from which the authorities have a duty to protect them. 1 write with a full experience of the last war, also as a parent with a son who went through the rearguard ' actions in Greece, and 1 trust that parents and relatives of the men of our early echelons will be most insistent that balloted men obtaining commissions should he used for training recruits iu New Zealand only, [jet us | not too readily forget April, 1915. and I j April. 1941.
