ADAMS CUP FIELD I "" " j GOOD CONTEST EXPECTED I REVIEW OF THE PROSPECTS BY ABAYDOS | Many good horses have contested the Adams' Memorial Cup. and a number of -successful ones have risen to the ; highest ranks, but it is doubtful if a i better and more even field has paraded than that listed for Saturday, when the Auckland Trotting Clubs W inter ! Meeting will bo opened at Alexandra Park. Kpsom. Onlv two of those originally handicapped, i Gold Bank and Gold Bar. failed to make the I final payment, but the South Island camil- j 'date" Popeve, "Foremost Junior and Worthy I Need! should create much interest., Toceetie, I owned in the South, has been in M. Stewart s stable since racing unsuccessfully at tne April ! meeting . ~ . . Local representation is equally strong, includin" two previous winners, Ueriuku and ■ Our M< Kinney in addition to Josedale Grattan and three Dells, second and third respectively last year, when Bold' Venture won. Jo«edalc Grattan, after a lengthy spell, reappeared at the AVaikato meeting Ibis month, to run third in the Matangi Handicap, making a course record of L'.-IO 2-5. If that i race has been beneficial, the American-bred horse, one of the best in the country, should !he hard to hea' 'Our Jewel, a very useful ■ performer, is bracketed with Josedale firat- | i tan. giving F. J Smith a strong hand Hillcrest, whose form last May was out- ! standing, recently gave a glimpse of return- | , ing form, and Xoble Prince, a winner at ' Kpsom in showed up well for second to i Betty Boup at Hamilton in the Matangi i " n'ur' Peggv, twice winner ot the Champion I Handicap." is likely to be near her best and 'should take sonio A soft track would I he to the advantage of Our McKinney. Three I Bells has not revealed his true form this I season, hut improvement can be expected. L'eniiku, who gave a glimpse of form when second at Kpsom and Addington recently, ! gave a poor display at Claudelands, hut j should be improved for the race and must be , respected. | Toceetie revealed high-class form at the Auckland summer meetiflg, scoring two doi cisive victories, and last mouth at Ashburton she .-ent Zincali to a Xew Zealand record I" of 3.1 o to give her 30 yards and a beating. Toceetie should be back to her best and difficult to dispose of. Worthy N'eed also raced prominently at the slimmer meeting, securing a win arid three placing", in one of which he created a track record of for second. Worthy Xeed was again consistent in his efforts at Forbury Park this month, scoring a first arid two placings. His prospects are bright. Foremost Junior, one of the best pacers from Southland, has won three races this term, two being at two miles, indicating good staying ability. I'opeye also stays well, as he proved at Kpsom in February, winning in l.'jti off I IJ. He also won at the Hawera Faster meeting. Iri a good range, the main fancies may he Toceetie, Josedale Grattan, Worthy Xeed and Foremost Junior. The* Cornwall Handicap, limit has drawn a large field of fine sprinters, and. with few exceptions, all have won recently. M. Stewart has a useful combination, Xarbada and Axspcar. and the former may lie preferred. Two former members of the stable. Club King, now trained by J. Shaw, and Young Parry, who is under the care of 1,. X. Vernall. should provide stout opposition, especially Young Parry, a little unlucky in his last 'two starts ; Double Peter looks likely to he the most ; dangerous after his sjilemlid form in winning: the * Kaipaki Handicap at Hamilton in I.an Stargum, although unplaced at ; Claudelands, has good credentials and his j turn should not he long delayed. Peter's Find, winner of the Xew Brighton Challenge Stakes and Great Xorthern Trotting Derby, and who was badly checked in his last start at Auckland, only needs l_o go away correctly to be difficult to beat. Kete Kara, after several unplaced efforts, succeeded in dead-heating with Club King in the Henderson Handicap last month, and, now that he is back to form, should go well. Haiidicappcr is racing solidly and may surprise, and Lynn Key, who is not having the best of luck, is capable of a good effort. Albertini is a recent winner, and. if ready, Kitty's Choice "Should be dangerous. Petite Jewel may be the best of the others. The favourites' may be Double Peter, Xarbada, Peter's Find, Young Parry and Stargum.
