THE ROD IN SCHOOL
Sir, — L would like to voice a sense of appreciation of Mr. H. P. Andrew's statement, as reported in Saturday's Hkkald, of 11is convictions after 50 years as a schoolmaster, in regard to the use of the rod in schools. He disbelieves entirely in the stupid and wicked dictum, incorrectly attributed to Solomon, "Spare the rod and spoil the child." His statements that "more children have been ruined by the rod than made by it, that the rule of the rod is no good, it never was, and it never will be," should be printed in large scarlet letters in every room of th<> Teachers' Training College, and in every school.
