HELP IN EMERGENCY SUGGESTION BY SOCIETY A proposed scheme by which the Plunket Society could best help in time of emergency was explained by Miss H. Chapman, charge nurse, to members of the Auckland Plunket committee at its meeting yesterday morning. Mrs. J. C. Allan presided. Miss Chapman said it had been suggested that in each district the Plunket, nurse should give a course ot lectures to women who would he called Plunket aids" and whose duty it would bo to assist with the care of babies and voting children if the need arose as the result ot war or other national emergency. Arrangements were not yet complete, she said. .Members were asked to give consideration to the question of how the Auckland branch as a body could best, niako a contribution toward the war effort. In view of the conditions of many ol the children's hospitals in England, tho opinion was expressed that the aim should be to concentrate on intaut,s garments. Decision was deterred until the next meeting. In her report of the month's work from headquarters Miss Chapman said 05 expectant mothers had been seen tor the first, time in the pre-natal department. while ;151 return visits had been paid and t mothers were under supervision. In the post-natal section :tlo new habv cases had been seen, 1 visits had been paid to homes, and 11>. 171 mothers and babies had visited the various olliees. Miss Chapman appealed to members lor supplies of I babies' and children's clothing for distribution tp mothers in need. At tho Truhy King Karitane Hospital the matron, .Miss S. Lush, stated that 111 mothers and 20 babies, eight of whom were premature, had been admitted during the month.Miss D. Batt had been appointed assistant matron and Miss .M.
