SERIES OF SHALL FIRES
GRANDSTAND ENDANGERED A grass fire which broke out on tli© railway embankment adjoining C'arlaw Park at about 2.50 p.m. yesterday for a time endangered the'grandstand. A machine from the central lire station answered the call and extinguished the flames after slight damage to the advertisement hoardings behind the stand. A rubbish fire at a property at- 154 Remuera Road, owned by Mr. BSheath, of Orakei Road, was attended by engines from Parnell and Remuera. Slight damage was caused to a detached garage. Machines from the. Mount Eden and Mount Albert brigades extinguished with buckets a small outbreak at a house at 454 Mount Eden Road owned by Mr. E. Fowler, of S a r.she id Street, Heme Bay. Little damage was caused. Five grass fires were extinguished by suburban brigades during the day.
