CHIEF SCOUT'S FUNERAL

FULL MILITARY HONOURS ABBEY BURIAL OFFERED LONDON, Jan. 9 The body of the late Lord BadenPowell was buried at Nveri, Kenya, with military honours in keeping with the rank of Lieutenant-Genera!. The. casket was carried on a gun-carriage, over which the Union Jack and a scout hat lay. The British Government offered a burial at Westminster Abbey, but the remains will stay at Nyeri until after the war.

DOMINION'S SYMPATHY

PRIME MINISTER'S MESSAGE [by tulegjiaph-pit ess association] WELLINGTON, Friday The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, sent the following cablegram to Lady Baden-Powell, widow of Lord Baden-Powell: —"On behalf of the Government and people of New Zealand, I extend a message of deepest sympathy in the sad loss you and your family have sustained. Lord Baden-Powell's distinguished service to the Empire has earned him the everlasting gratitude of the British people. "The ideals ho has inspired among so many thousands throughout the great scout movement, which he founded and to which lie rendered lifelong devotion, constitute a living memorial to his great achievement."

RENEWAL OF PROMISES REQUEST TO ALL MEMBERS Because of the holidays the remembrance services in honour of Lord Baden-Powell, will not bo held until February 2.1. Nevertheless, the actingDominion Chief Commissioner desires all cubs and scouts to pay their homage to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock, in thankfulness for a life which was a source oi inspiration and help to millions throughout the world. Cubs and scouts, brownies and guides are asked to renew their promises, in twos and threes, or more where they can be gathered together, otherwise smglv, in the privacy of their own homes, or wherever they may be a t 10 o clock,,
