NEW SEASON OPENED WESTERN SPRINGS RACING KEEN MOTOR-CYCLE EVENTS Ideal conditions prevailed for the opening of the midget car and motorcycle racing season at Western Springs Speedway on Saturday night. There was an attendance of about 7000, this being 2000 more than the figure for the opening night last year. Some very clc.sc linislics were witnessed, when only feet separated the leaders, and the times were consistently fast. The main event of the evening, a midget car race over J2 laps, attracted 11 contestants, and was notable for a splendid performance by V. Hrewer, who has recently returned from a season of speedway racing in the United States. lie also won the Invitation Stakes and the Butcher Cup. Spectacular broadsiding was witnessed in the motor-cycle events, and consistent performances were given by G. Mudgway, who won the Summer Handicap, and R. Seed, who won the Stadium Handicap.
