OBITUARY

CAPTAIN HAROLD PARKER The death has occurred of Captain Harold Parker, aged 53, a very wellknown coastal master. For the past eight or nine years he had been in command of the Tiri, one of A. G. Frankham, Li mi ted's vessels, but recently he had been ashore on sick leave. He was a son of a master mariner who was wellknown in the earlier days of Auckland, and he had spent his lifetime at sea as a scowman and rafter, and later as mate and master of various coastal vessels, including the tug Akaroa. He was said to know every corner of the coast from the North Cape to the Bluff. Captain Parker is survived by his widow and two daughters. e ' MRS. JANE BOWDEN The death occurred on Saturday of Mrs. Jane Bowden, a well-known Auckland resident, at the age of 84. She was married in 1873 to the late Mr. Will Bowden, who was one of the best known of Auckland's cab-owners and drivers in those days. Mrs. Bowden was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. .J. J. Howard and came with them to New Zealand from Australia in 1864. They lived first m Christehureh, but moved to Auckland in 1869. Alter a short period on the Thames goldfields, they returned to settle in Auckland in 1873. Mrs. Bowden lived in Auckland ever since that time, and she is survived by three daughters, IS grandchildren, 25 greatgrandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild . MR. C. C. SMITH [by telegraph OWN coerespojtdsnt] NAPIER, Sunday The death has occurred of Mr. Charles Cowpor Smith, aged 67, chairman of the Hawke's Bay County Council. B'e was the eldest son of the Hon. W. C. Smith, M.L.C., who for many years was member for the Waipawa electorate before being appointed to the Upper House. Mr. C. C. Smith took up fanning in central Hawke's Bay district and then mcquired a farm property in the Eskdale district. He is survived by six sous and one daughter.
