HOLIDAY MOTOKISTS ASSOCIATION REPORTS CAMBRIDGE HIGHWAY WARNING The conduct of motorists during tbo Christmas period is stated by reports received by the Automobile Association (Auckland) to have been generally very satisfactory. Speed on the whole is said to have been moderate and steady, •with a reduced tendency to take chances and a greater inclination by drivers to exercise patience and to wait until it could be seen that the road ahead was cleai before overtaking and passing. A features of the holiday truffle, add the reports, has been the large proportion of caravans and trailers, this being particularly noticeable in North Auckland and Poverty Bay. However, petrol restrictions have seriously affected the normal holiday traffic usually enjoyed by wayside localities, and most motorists have apparently made direct for a definite destination. This has meant that they have bad no need to replenish petrol or supplies as was customary 011 the longer and more extended tours that have usually been a featuie of Christmas and New Year holiday travelling. The general opinion is stated by the reports to be that the volume of traffic is considerably lighter than last year, although the principal resorts are full to overflowing. The Automobile Association issues a warning for users of the Hamilton to Cambridge highway. The tar-sealed surface of this road is stated to become verv slipperv and treacherous when wet during or after rain, and, unless great care is exercised on the bends, cars are liable to skid, sometimes with disastrous results.
