STRAWBERRIES CHEAPER

With fair quantities still coming forward. the prices of strawberries declined again on the City Markets yesterday from the high rates realised during the Christmas demand. Extra choice Captain Cook strawberries brought from Is Gd to Is 10d a chip and first quality Marguerite Is 4d. compared with rates generally over 2s and reaching 2s ')d a chip on Monday. The fruit brought high prices on Boxing Day, when supplies were below "expectations, but the demand in the shops also proved to have eased ofl. Although indications formerly suggested that the season might be shortened by dry weather early in the summer, more rain in recent weeks has resulted in most gardens showing no signs of premature slackening off.
