RACECOURSE WORKERS
NEED TO JOIN UNION RESENTMENT AT WHANGAREI [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] "WHANGAREI, Tuesday Instructions have been received by men who work for the Whangarei Racing Club for the two race meetings each year that they must become members of a union before again obtaining such employment. Many of the men are already members of unions covering their regular employment, and they resent being forced to pay to another union the entrance fee of os and also 6d for each day of work at the races. It is mainly the entrance fee that is objected to, rind those concerned consider that they are being severely penalised in being asked to pay it, as with the Gd a day deduction and social and national security taxes there would be a deduction of 10s from their earnings during the two days of the race meeting next month.' . .
