YOUTHS ESCAPE
INMATES OF BORSTAL TWO ASSAULT WARDER . SIX OTHERS RELEASED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] INVEHCARGILL, Monday Eight youths in custody in the Borstal Institution escaped at 9 o'clock to-night after two of them had made an assault on a warder and then released six more. Two of the youths later gave themselves up and six were still at large at midnight. A large force of police and warders is combing the surrounding area. The assault occurred in the institution ranch house where 14 inmates had their quarters. They were being locked up for the night when two of them struck a warder, Mr. 0. Furniss, on the head with a blunt weapon and locked him in a cell. After they had released six more inmates all eight made their escape. The six youths still at large are four Maoris and two Europeans. Mr. Furniss is suffering from a slight injury to the head.
