THE WAIHI MINE
WORK NOT INTERRUPTED DISPUTE REFERRED TO COURT Work ill the Martha Gold Mining Company's mine and battery at AVaihi was carried on without interruption yesterday as tho result of a decision by thn engineering employees to accept the company's proposal that the question of their holidays should bo referred to tho Arbitration Court for an interpretation. The men, who comprise about 50 engineers, fitters and blacksmiths employed in the workshop and electrical department, claimed that they were entitled to 10 days' holiday on full pay each year, on an equal footing with the operative section, which includes miners and engine-drivers, under the holiday clause in a recent award. They announced their intention of holding a stop-work meeting yesterday, whereupon the company made it known that only essential maintenance work would bo done in tho mine and battery that day. Tho men reconsidered the position at the week-end and decided to abandon tho stop-work meeting and allow the disputed point to be submitted to tho Court.
