SERVICE OVERSEAS
START OF FIRST BALLOT DRAWING 14,000 NAMES [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WELLINGTON. Monday The first ballot of men for service in the Expeditionary Force commenced to-day. As 14,000 names will be drawn it is considered that about one man in every five in Class A of the First Division of the reserve will be selected. The class comprises single men between the ages of 21 and 40. The two ballots already held for territorial service included single men between the ages of 19 and 45. The names of those drawn in the present ballot will be published in a Gazette on December 4, and appeals must be lodged with the Director of National Service by December 14.
