BULOLO AND PLACER RESULTS DIVIDEND RATES UNCHANGED Bulolo Gold Dredging, Limited, a Vancouver controlled company operating in New Guinea, for the year ended May 31 earned a net profit of 4,806,408 dollars (Canadian), or about £1,373,259 (Australian), compared with 3,874.085 dollars, about £1,106,881 (Australian) in the previous year. Inboth cases profit was struck before providing for amortisation. The dredgeable gravel reserves at the end of the financial year, according to recent cable advice, were estimated at 164,000,000 cubic yards, or 18,000,000 cubic yards less than tho estimate a year earlier, and 20,000,000 cubic yards which will be handled hydraulically. Eight dredges operated during the year. The profit of Placer Development, Limited, the holding company, for tho year ended April 30 was 1,100,6G0 dollars (Canadian), equal to about £314,474 (Australian), compared with 976,625 dollars, or £305,,195 Australian, for the previous year. Unchanged half-yearly dividends have been declared by the two companies as follows:—Bulolo, 1.50 dollars (Canadian) a share; Placer, (30 cents (Canadian) a share. Both dividends aro less Canadian absentee tax of 5 per cent and are payable 011 December 10. The demand for wheat remains heavy and immediato deliveries aro being made from merchants' "storo stocks at tho unaltered price of 7s 3d to 7s 4d a bushel. Barley.—Amplo supplies of barley aro available for immediate and forward delivery until the end of December. The demand is' steady, with price -unaltered at undipped, 4s lid to 5s a bushel; clipped, 5s 4d to 5s Od a bushel, with tho lower arranged prico of Is fiVid a bushel, cash beforo despatch, for a minimum of 10 sacks. Maize.—Good stocks of maize are held, by merchants, and the ready demand is mot from store stocks at 7s 7d to 7si 9d a bushel, with crushed at 7s Od to 7S lid a bushel. Oats.—The oat market remains firm and supplies in tho South Island are short. The price is 5s lid' to 6s 3d a bushel. Bran.—Merchants' stocks consist of a quantity of Australian supplemented by daily supplies of local. The demand is good, and Australian is realising £9 10s to £9 15s a ton. Wheatmeal.—This line is now more widely known and is being Teadily accepted in place of pollard. The price remains steady at £lO 10s a ton, less 1% per cent for a minimum of 0110 jton. BRITISH WHOLESALE PRICES British Wireless LONDON, Nov. 17 Wholesale prices in Britain, as measured by the Board of Trado monthly index number, were about 1 per cent higher in October .than in September. The aggregate increases since the outbreak of war are:—-Gen-eral index, 4oi per cent; food prices, 58} per cent; industrial materials and manufactures, 39 per cent. BOBBY CALF POOLS [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Monday Judging by the present weekly killings of nobby calves collections this year are likely to extend over a longer period than last year, states Mr. W. A. Phillips, chairman of directors of the New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association, in his monthly circular to suppliers. To date, tho association's killings totalled 297,000, an increase of 67,000 over the figure for last season.
