£300,000 CHURCH APPEAL

CONTINUATION FOR YEAR £250,000 ALREADY GIVEN [by tei»kgraph —own correspondent] PALMERSTOX NORTH, Sunday The Presbyterian Church thrjee years ago aimed as a special Centennial effort to raise £300,000 by 1940. Of that amount £200,000 was get aside for the extinction of Church debts. An announcement was made at the General Assembly that the £250,000 mark had been reached. There was also an announcement that this figure must be considerably augmented when- reports not yet to hand were received. Tributes were paid to the way in. which congregations had responded, in spite of the fact that the war / must have interfered with the intentions of many contributors. It was decided to continue the appeal for another year. It was also reported that the North Island had made a quicker response than the South Island. The former had been asked to find £137,800 and returns to date showed £134,000 contributed. Confidence was expressed that the full quota would be raised.
