CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES IMPROVEMENT IN BATTING NORTH SHORE'S LARGE SCORE Splendid conditions favoured play in tlie senior championship of the Auckland Cricket Association on Saturday, when a start was made with' the fourth series. The general standard of batting showed an improvement, and there were several large totals. Training College, Y.31.C.A. and North Shore all passed tho 200 mark, the last-named having the largest score, .'s(3l. Training College, one of the new teams in the competition, continues to show improvement, anil it set l'apakura Camp a iiard task in the game on Xo. 1 wicket at Eden Park by compiling 251. The latter replied with 38 for one wicket. Grafton made 190 against Middlcniore on Xo. 2 wicket, the latter collapsing in surprising fashion for 63 Poiisonby-Bnlinoral compiled 191 against University's 139 for one wicket on Xo. <1 pitch, while on Xo. 3, Y.M.C.A. made 220 and Eden replied with 23 for three wickets. North Shore had a successful day at Devonport, running up a total of 301 against Parnell. The latter did not commence, its first innings. A feature of flic play at Eden Park was the reappearance of the veteran R. W. Rowntree, former Auckland representative wicketkeeper. He was in good form with the bat, scoring 21 not out. while he showed much of his old skill behind the stumps. A. F. Bell, of University, was the highest individual scorer with 97 not out. Other good scores were:—ll. Wallers (Xorth Shore), 81; V. J. Scott (Y.M.C.A.), 75; J. Cowie (Xorth Shore), 7-1; G. Dclamore (Training College), 66; 1. W. Cooper (Y.M.C.A.), 61; X.
