,THE HERALD FUND DISTRESS IN LONDON CLOSING OF APPEAL Further contributions of nearly £3OO to the New Zealand Herald Fund for the relief of distress caused in London by German air raid?) have taken the total to £17,184 7s 6d. The fund closed at noon on Saturday, but some part of the, additional sum mentioned was received from outside districts by mail. Other contributions posted by subscribers ill country districts before the closing of the fund will be included and acknowledged.

The provincial quota of the sum of £IOO,OOO already sent to London has been exceeded, so that present donations will go toward the £250,000 which tho Auckland Patriotic Council is raising for general war relief purposes. Among the amounts received in the week-end was a cheque for £42 6s from employees ashore and afloat of the Northern Steamship Company, Limited. It was probably a Scot who wrote "There'll always be a Britain" in enclosing his contribution of 10s. The Maoris of Onewhero and To Kohanga sent £lO 13s 7d as the proceeds of b. dance.
