IMPORTS FROM BRITAIN
DELAYS IN SHIPMENT The view that the Minister of Customs, the Hon. W. Nash, has failed to realise difficulties in securing delivery of goods subject to fourth period licences before December 31 next, is expressed by importers, many of whom are communicating by cablegram with British manufacturers. One importer produced invoices relating to imports which had just arrived from England which indicated that 11 weeks elapsed between the time the goods were sent to the docks for shipment and when delivery was made. "I am now informing overseas manufacturers that unless they send the merchandise to the port of shipment by early in October, it will be no use executing the orders," he said. "Even then, there can be no guarantee that the articles will arrive before the end of the year, for no one can say how long ships will have to wait for convoys or what delays will occur from other causes."
