By INA KERR (14) "T REALLY think," said the Giraffe, that it is time you stopped staring." „ Maureen jumped. Did that animal really speak? "What are you staring at?" asked the Giraffej "don't you know it's rude to stare P"
"Oh, yes, sir," replied Maureen politely. The Giraffe just grunted. "But can you really talk?" asked Maureen. "Of course," replied the Giraffe.. " "Then why are we taught you can't P" "Well, it was like this," began the Giraffe, "when we were—" "Hi!" said a voice at Maureen's, side, "are you coming or aje you not?" "Wait a sec., Robin," Maureen said to her.brother, "this giraff®talks." Robin looked at the giraffe and suddenly he burst out laughing. _ "Don't be silly," he roared, "fancy a giraffe talking." • • "It can talk," said Maureen, indignantly. _ . "Look, will vou come on," Robin asked impatiently. . Maureen looked at the giraffe and saw it wink. She winked back, and happily followed Robin.
