PATRIOTIC APPEAL WAIKATO QUEEN CARNIVAL SCHEME TO RAISE £45,000 [FROM Oim OWN COnRESPONOF.NT] HAMILTON, Tuesday A decision to launch a queen carnival in the Waikato Patriotic Zone Committee's area for the purpose of raising £45,000 for the relief of distress in London, in assisting returned soldiers before the Government's rehabilitation scheme comes into operation, and other patriotic purposes, was made at a meeting of the zone committee to-day. Mr. H. D. Caro, Mayor of Hamilton, presided. Messrs. C. G. Hunt and T. J. B. Mason, joint organisers of the last South Auckland queen carnival, outlined a scheme, under which the district would be divided into 11 areas, each one of which would have a population of from 7000 to 9000. Hamilton would be divided into three areas. In addition, there would be a Maori queen, whose committee would collect throughout tho zone. It was proposed to launch the campaign on October 14 and end it on December 14.
The meeting unanimously resolved to adopt the scheme. Messrs. Hunt and Mason were appointed honorary organisers. Messrs. Caro, T. G. Reynolds, J. R. Fow, and A. 0. Rico were appointed a Hamilton executive committee, and Messrs. W. C. E. George, E. James and W. Hetherington were appointed a boundaries committee. In an appeal for co-operation on the part of everyone in the zone, Mr. Caro said there was no limit to the amount that could be raised. There was no desire to do anything that conflicted with the responsibility of the Government." He strongly urged Waikato residents to support the campaign.
