BLASTING ACCIDENT
CLAIM FOR COMPENSATION A dispute over the compensation due to a stonewall builder, who was injured in a blasting accident at Ellerslie on April 24, 1939, was heard by the Compensation Court, presided over by Mr. Justice O'ltegan, yesterday. The plaintiff was Ivan Jurich (Mr. Sullivan), aged 47, who sought to recover further compensation from his employer, the State Advances Corporation (Mr. Goldstine). It was admitted that while Jurich was at work he was struck by a" large piece of stone thrown by blasting operations near by, receiving injury to his chest, back and ribs and a kidney. He had received compensation for disablement to October 30 last, and asked for further compensation from that date to the present time.
Mr. Sullivan said Jurich was still suffering a 50 per cent disability as a result of the accident. Mr. Goldstine said it was denied that Jurich was incapacitated as a result of the accident for any longer period than that for which he had already been compensated . After hearing medical evidence His Honor reserved his decision.
