TAKANINI TEAMS

GOOD TIMES RECORDED SIR LYSANDER IMPROVED LOVAALS MOVES IMPRESSIVELY Attractive gallops over five furlongs by Lovnals, Glen Connell, Orelio and Arvakur, and a smart half-mile by Sir Lysander, were the most impressive work-outs at Takanini yesterday, morning, when the middle grass, with the poles '2oft. out, provided excellent going, and faster times than usual wore recorded. Among others to please wer/ the Pneroa candidates Valnmito, Gaymiss and Maxain. British Sovereign was responsible for good schooling. Valamito (Jackson) and To Kawiti (Cokor) worked soundly over seven furlongs in 1.33 1-5, there being little between them. Valamito looks improved from his racing at Avondale. To Kawiti also shaped pleasingly. Flood Tido (Coleman) was going resolutely at tho end of a similar task in 1.33. Lovnals (Spinley) sprinted a smart nvo furlongs in 1.4 and, although this was an after-breakfast gallop, when tho trnck is considered faster, her effort was encouraging. Orelio (Smith) was under restraint to complete tho distance with Arvakur (Jackson) in 1.4 2-5, and workod particularly well, Arvakur shaped a little better than recently. Glen Connell (Cleaver) covered tho samo ground with his customary freedom in 1.4 3-5. lie has undoubted pace, and having succeeded at Avondale ho may now oxtond hie record. Grandora Works Freely Tho best four furlongs of tho morning, in 51s, was credited to Sir Lysander (Parsons). Sir Lysander looks likely to improve, and ho may not bo long in regaining his best form. River Plato (Brown) appeared to be doing it a shade better than Horoic Star (Colter) at the end of half a mile in 5.1 3-ss. Heroic Star may make his debut on the second day of tho Ohinemuri Jockey Club's meeting. River Plato seems definitely improved since competing in the Avondale Stakes. Grandora (Cleaver) was doing his work well In recording 51 2-ss. Lady Pay (Parsons) showed speed in completing four furlongs in 525, Gaymiss (Parsons) running tho last four of five furlongs within herself in 52 3-ss. Sho has improved since tho Avondale meeting, and will contest tho Flying Handicap at Paeroa. Maxam (Melnally) and Aberdovey (Spinley) broke away at the seven-furlonp post to run half a mile, but they were timed only over tho last two furlongs, this section taking 255. Both are in fine order for coming engagements.

Queen City (Inglis) was given a threefurlong sprint and, hitting out freely, completed the task in 37 4-ss. The injury to her fetlock joint has responded to treatment quickly. Net tar ion (Jackson) beat Uorak (McMinn) by a neck nftcr three furlongs after getting slightly the better of the jump-off. Both are P. Smith's candidates for the Welcomo Stakes next month. There was little between Iverona. (Mclnally) and Payette (Splnloy) in 38 l-ss, both revealing improvement on earlior efforts. Hine-iti Beats Palustre The Dozer (Gray) and Cillas (Beguely) were sent a mile and a-quartcr, but the pace was on only over the last four furlongs, which were traversed in 555. They have made good progress. Cambria (Curwen) and Route March (Smith) hit out nicely over three furlongs in 38 'J-os. Hine-iti (Mclnally) began a shade behind Palustre (Parsons) at the five-furlong post, and finished a length in front, ill 1.5 2-5. Hine-iti may be capable of a forward showing in the novice class at Paeroa. Other gallops were:—

Small Boy (Burgess) and Searcher (Quedloy) jumped four hurdles safely, although Small Boy got in a little closo to the second hurdle. This was probably duo to the slow pace. Working very well, British JSovereign (Burgess) gave an excellent display over four fences. .

J. H. Wallace stated yesterday that Mazir had not done well since his raco nt Avondale, and that there was -littlo livelihood of his fulfilling his engagement in the Poland Cup. No decisions have, been reached as to which events Small Boy and Hunting Bee will contest. ~wj The apprentice J.
