MEN FOR MUNITIONS
"COMBING OUT" ARMY DECISION IN AUSTRALIA SYDNEY, Sept. 14 In order to meet the essential re-= quirements of munitions production in Australia in relation to the shortage of skilled labour, a conference of representatives of the three fighting services and the Ministry of Munitions has agreed upon a "combing, out" from the services of skilled personnel engaged in non-technical" capacity. " According to the Ministry of Munitions there is a shortage of all classes of skilled labour, the shortage of toolmakers aiid first-class engineering machinists being acute. The Prime Minister, Mr. Menzies, announced that, following a conference between representatives of the Defence services and the Ministry of Munitions, steps were being taken to ensure that the of certain highly-skilled workers were kept for munitions works, and that these men were not accepted for service in the armed forces Avithout the consent of the special manpower sub-committee. It had been agreed, he said, that the needs of the Ministry of Munitions should hare priority in the case of such technicians* ,
