PUBLIC SERVICE BONUS
APPRECIATION EXPRESSED LIMITATION DISAPPROVED [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday Appreciation of the action of the Government in granting a cost of living bonus to civil servants was expressed at an executive meeting of the Waikato section of the Public Service Association, and special reference was made to the fact that the bonus was being paid as from August 12. It was stated, however, that in restricting the full rate of the bonus to £l3 per annum to officers receiving a salary of £330 or under the Government was placing members of the service at a disadvantage as compared with emplovees of local bodies, almost all of whom, it was stated, had received bonuses irrespective of salary. A resolution was passed expressing the opinion that the present position should have been met by the granting of a cost of living bonus to all civil servants at. a flat rate of £l3 per annum, irrespective of salary.
