CAMPS NEXT MONTH SIX IN THE PROVINCE TEMPORARY ARRANGEMENTS Six temporary canvas camjv! in the Auckland Province will accommodate Territorials who were to have been mobilised at Waiouru on October 1. The mobilisation date has not been changed. Details of the camps, with the units they will accommodate, are:— ■ Rotorua Racecourse.—lst Field Regiment, Now Zealand Artillery. Cambridge Racecourse.—lst Battalion, Waikato Regiment. Te Aroha Racecourse.—lst Battalion, Haiiraki Regiment. Whangarei Racecourse.—lst Battalion, North Auckland Regiment. Epsom Show Grounds.—Auckland Company, New Zealand Scottish Regiment. Avondalo Racecourse.—lst Field Company, New Zealand Engineers. The alternative arrangements were made necessary at short notice when hitches occurred in tlio building programme for the Waiouru camp, including the delay caused by the recent fire which destroyed one. of the mess huts. The men will be accommodated under canvas until the main camp is ready to receive them, and it is not likely that this will be less than a month. Officers and non-commissioned officers of the various regiments already been trained, and advance parties will leave shortly to complete arrangements at the various temporary camps.

TO-DAY'S BALLOT POSITION OF MEN DRAWN IMMEDIATE TRAINING [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION*] WELLINGTON, Monday The first ballot for territorial service will begin to-morrow. Men who are drawn, passed as medically fit and are not exempted, will bp expected to go into camp immediately, according to an announcement made to-day by the Hon. R. Semple, Minister of National Service. He also emphasised the fact that men selected for territorial service in the ballot this week will not be exempt from service overseas at a later date, r and will be included in future ballots for overseas service. The number of men registered in the first division of the General Reserve, added the Minister, was-approximately 93,000. Asked whether there was likely to be another ballot before Christmas, _Mr. Semple said this would be entirely governed by circumstances, but if another ballot was necessary adequate notice would be given those called up. HOSTESS HOUSE PROVISION AT PAPAKURA RENOVATION OF BUILDING A tender of £SOO for the complete renovation of the residence lately acquired near* Papakura'/camp as a "hostess house" for the accommodation, of visiting women relatives and fiancees of soldiers, was accepted last night by the Auckland Provincial- Patriotic Council. It was reported that the transfer of the property to the National Patriotic Fund Board and the Provincial Council jointly had been completed, and that the specifications for the reconditioning of the -house had been prepared by the council's honorary architect. Mr. M. K Draffin. The time for completion of the work was/one month. On the motion of the chairman. Sir Ernest Davis, the council expressed its anpreciation of the initiative 'shown by Mrs. "W. P- Wilson in bringing the project forward and doing much preliminary work. Sir Ernest said the hostel would be of sreat value to country people, and the military authorities were very pleased that it was being established. Tt was also resolved to thank Air. Draffin for his services.
