GIFT OF £SOO
THE ORPHANAGES APPEAL A second anonymous gift of £SOO has been received by the Auckland Orphanages Advisory Council toward the £IO,OOO fund it is raising for the orphanages with which it is associated. In these 12 homes, controlled by various churches, there are about 1000 children, and the object of tlio council is to secure £lO for the support of each of these. A special appeal to the public will bo made on Friday, when street collections will bo held throughout the city and suburbs for the orphans. Plans are in hand to have the orphanages in readiness to reccivo children sent from Britain, and caro for them until they are placed in private homes.
