AIDING LONDON

BELIEF OP DISTRESS £2262 GIVEN YESTERDAY. HERALD READERS' LIST Continued bombing of London has spurred residents of all parts of the Auckland Province to further generous response to the fund launched by the New Zealand Herald. Contributions yesterday totalled £2262 7s lUd, bringing the total received to date to £5619 2s od. The immediate need is the provision of the Auckland provincial quota of the sum of £IOO.OOO already sent to London by the National Patriotic Fund Board. The appeal, ma'de at the request of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council, is wider in its scope, however, and is part of a general campaign for funds for other patriotic needs. Desire to Help Donations received at the Herald Office yesterday ranged from substantial amounts to' comparatively small suras, but letters accompanying the gifts all expressed the same sentiment, a strong desire to help the people of London in the hour of their ordeal. Some of the donors took the opportunity of recording their sincere admiration of the manner in which London and her people are standing up under daily bombing raids; others merely forwarded cheques or postal notes, without letters, but their meaning was equally clear. The Latest Donations Contributions to the fund may be sent by post or paid direct at the Herald Office. Those! forwarded by mail should be accompanied by precise instructions as to the form of acknowledgment desired' To ensure accuracy, the name or initials should be written in block letters.
