AEROPLANE FUND

TOTAL OVER £25,000 , GIFTS FROM ALL QUARTERS HERALD READERS' LIST Farther donations, large and small, yesterday carried the Herald Readers' Aeroplane Fund past the £25,000. mark, with one day left before the completion of its first fortnight. Included in yesterday's total of just under £2056 is a donation of £IOOO from the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board. The other contributions, as on previous days, were sent in by public bodies, business houses and private citizens in ail parts of the province. One sum of £SO was from an Indian deputy-inspector-general of police, now on a visit to New Zealand. Accompanying a cheque for £lO was a note proffering "congratulations on the great success," and another donor of the same amount carefully safeguarded his anonymity, by sending banknotes in an envelope with ail unsigned typewritten missive asking that the sum be credited to "Cash." A letter received yesterday from Great Barrier Island stated that subscription lists were in circulation there, but added: "As the homes are very scattered and the mails are only weekly, we hope to forward to you by next mail the Great Barrier Island residents' donation." Information was also received that the shareholders in a country saleyards company, at their annual meeting, had resolved not to declare a dividend, but to contribute an equivalent sum to the fund. Subscriptions of any amount may be forwarded by post or paid direct at the .Herald Office. Those of 10s and over will be acknowledged individually in the columns of the Herald, and smaller amounts will be recorded on the list exhibited in the public office in Queen Street.
