THE FIRST ECHELON
Sir, —In Thursday's Herald a correspondent, " Fair Play," makes a plea for bettor treatment for the boys of the iirst echelon. There is not one of us but wishes them nothing but the best.'The part that hurts in this letter is the statement that the first echelon were marooned in Egypt, while the boys of the second were being feted in England. Quite a few of the boys in the second echelon volunteered for the first, but for good and legitimate reasons were kept back for the second. My son was one of those. Is "Fair Play" really sincere? Let him rise to the occasion and forget that kind of thing. To my mind, such an observation is very unfair. It is extremely hurtful to any parents with sons in the second echelon. A Soldier's Father.
