THE LEAGUE CODE
CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES PROGRAMME FOR TO-DAY MANUKAU AND RICHMOND With fortunes fluctuating in the Auckland Rugby League's senior championship, the competition remains at an interesting stagfe. Richmond, tho third team this season to hold the leading position, can expect the strongest of opposition, and it will have to exert itself to repulse a series of powerful challenges. Manukau will make a bid to-day to depose the leaders in the principal attraction at Carlaw Park. Under ordinary circumstances a wet field would incline the balance in Manukau's favour, but the Richmond forwards have been showing such splendid form lately that they should prove a match for the -Maoris. Manukau's displays of late have been somewhat disappointing, but a big improvement is anticipated.
North Shore, whose erratic characteristics have come to light in recent series, will have a chance to reinstate itself in tho curtainraiser against Ponsonby. The latter is showing improvement and should extend its opponents. There should be lit tie to choose between Marist and City in the principal game on No. 'J ground, while Newton, opposed by.Papakura in the early game on No. 2 ground, will endeavour to check its slide down the championship ladder.
