MONEY REFUNDED
DELIVERY OF BREAD
THE EXTRA HALFPENNY. NO ' EXPLANATION OFFERED The charge of id for the delivery of each half-loaf of bread, which was instituted by Auckland bakers last Saturday, has been discontinued, and many cases have ' been reported of roundsmen refunding to their customers those halfpennies already paid. The charge for the delivery of lialf-loaves of bread for cash, which hitherto had cost 3d, was raised on Saturday to 3§d, the secretary of the Master Bakers' Association advancing the reason that bakers were bearing the load of increased costs, and stating that the new price was only bringing Auckland into line with other centres. Although some bakers admitted yesterday that the charge was discontinued, and that roundsmen were refunding halfpennies already paid, they refused to make any statement on the matter, referring inquiries to the association secretary, who would neither confirm nor deny the bakers' statements.
