INFLUENZA OUTBREAK

NGARUAWAHIA CAMP ONLY 10 CASES YESTERDAY [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON; Thursday Since the beginning of July 278 men of the railway battalion encamped at Ngaruawahia have been admitted to the Waikato Hospital suffering from a mild form of influenza, and there were 160 remaining in the institution to-day. Only 10 further cases were admitted to-day, showing a marked improvement in the position. The wet weather last Sunday resulted in a largo increase in the number of cases earlier this week. The rain leaked through the tents and thoroughly damped the men's bedclothing. Under the military regulations, the bedding is required to be packed neatly in the tents, with the result that in many cases it remained damp. Men admitted to the hospital to-day had clothing and pyjamas damp from last Sunday's downpour. There are 20 convalescing soldiers at Bryant House, Raglan. Some of the men in the hospital who have been there for some days are now recuperating, and they will be sent out to Bryant House in a day or two. An appeal has been made to citrus fruit growers to forward any lemons they can spare to the Waikato Hospital for the use of the soldiers.
