FOUR YEARS IN PRISON

BURGLARIES BY MAORI [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Thursday "You were warned in 1935 that you had qualified to be declared an habitual criminal, and on this occasion you will be so declared," said Mr. Justice .Johnston in the Hamilton Supreme Court to-day, when a Maori, Hugh Simmons, aged 29, a labourer, appeared for sentence on eight charges of breaking and entering and theft at Te Ivuiti, Te Aroha and Hamilton. His Honor said the prisoner had numerous previous convictions, and there was nothing that could be said in his favour. Prisoner was sentenced to six months' imprisonment with hard labour on each of the eight counts, the sentences to be cumulative. He was also declared to be an habitual criminal.
