QUEEN CARNIVAL

CEREMONY REPEATED TOWN HALL CROWDED PROCEEDS TOWARD CAUSE The.Town Hall was filled to capacity last night for a special queen carnival concert and a presentation of the coronation ceremony. The full ceremony, as performed on Tuesday night, was again staged, with all its attendant pageantry and spectacle. Vocal numbers wero contributed by Miss Kay Christie. Mrs. Mary Owers, Jrma Squirrel!, Mr. Gordon Fagan, Mrs. Kathleen Farrcll and Mr, ftobert Simers. -A military ensemble was presented by Miss Patricia Boyle and assisting artists, while Miss Isabel Langlands gave a violin solo. Comedy relief was provided by Mr. Alan Mcllwain. The grand finale, "Laud of Hope and Glory," was sung by Mrs. Mary Owers, supported by Mrs. K. Farrcll and Mr. Gordon Fagan, The pianist was Mr. Howard Moody. The coronation ceremony and concert will be repeated to-night at 8 o'clock, and a children's matinee will .be presented 011 Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Proceeds go to the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund. THE AUCKLAND FUND FURTHER AMOUNTS RECEIVED Several largo sums continue to be added to- the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund in Auckland. Proceeds from the queen carnival coronation ceremony and ball at the Town Hall on Tuesday night amounted to approximately £350, and further large totals arc expected when the takings from the repeated ceremonies last night, to-night and on Saturday afternoon are paid in. A cheque for £lO4 los 6d has been received from the New Zealand Institute for the Blind, this sum representing th© takings at a recent concert in the Town Hall. PAPATOETOE SUPPORT BEST RESPONSE IN DISTRICT The best response to any appeal ever made in the Papatoptoe district was that which recently realised over £1275 for the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund. The district supported the queen of the air, and all sections of the community co-operated with the greatest enthusiasm. About £328 was paid through the telephone exchange in connection with the radio appeal, while other well-supported efforts included a paddy's market and a mock court. A street canvass brought in £9O, and collections at private parties netted about £29.

CHILDREN'S CONTRIBUTION AUCKLAND PRIMARY SCHOOLS Over £I6OO was contributed in two weeks to the Sick and Wounded Fund bv pupils of schools in the Auckland Education Board's district, according to a statement by the chairman, Air. W. J. Campbell, at a meeting of the board yesterday. Offers by teachers to assist on farms and collect £IOOO for war purposes also were announced. The board passed a resolution expressing its appreciation of the fine efforts of the children and their teachers.
