COLLEGE DAY
CENTENNIAL FIXTURE ABANDONMENT DECISION RELUCTANT RECOMMENDATION The abandonment of the Centennial Open Day, planned by Auckland University College as part of tho centennial celebrations, was decided upon at yesterday's meeting of the Auckland University College Council, following q> recommendation from the professorial board. The board had taken this view reluctantly, said Professor J. Rutherford, but because of the war and the curtailing of other celebrations, it was folt that there would be little interest on the part of the public. In addition, war work which had been undertaken by tho staff would leave them little time to make preparations for the function planned.
The registrar, Mr. L. O. Desborough, reported that tho terms of office of two members of the council would expire on June 30. These were Mr. A. H. Johnstone, K.C., appointed by the GovernorGeneral in Council, and Mr. D. M. Rae, elected by members of tho General Assembly resident in the Auckland Province.
It was resolved that the registrar, as returning officer, should take steps to conduct an election among members of the assembly, and also inform tho Gov-ernor-General concerning the other appointment.
