SOCCER RESTRICTION
New South Wales Soccer clubs are considering a restriction of tho third-back game introduced by the famous English amateur player Bernard Joy in 1937. In third-back play the centre half-back's main duty is to keep the opposing centre-forward under snrveillanco practically throughout the play. He works in unison with the fullbacks on de-fence,-adopting spoiling methods to upset the co-operation of the centre-forward with his wing supports. According to leading Australian international players, the third-back game causes temper and trouble, substitutes brawn for brain and produces drab play. If tho change is adopted the centre half-back will again assume tho central figure in attack permitting at least four of the front line to be flung regularly into the movement, which, it is contended, will brighten the game.
